animation that's making waves!

Individuals and small creative teams are having an enormous impact on the movie industry

Hand drawn animation films and computer creations made with the likes of Blender are making inroads into the film industry. Professional quality animation is being made on open-source software by creative individuals and small teams.

Oscar winner Flow was made with Blender, by the Gints Zilbalodis. Another enormous successful animation is Ne Zha 2 from China. This follow up film is the highest-grossing animated film globally, surpassing even Hollywood’s Inside Out 2.

Usman Riaz, musician and filmmaker

The Glassworker from Pakistan is the first hand-drawn animated feature, a brilliant production by Usman Riaz and Mano Animation Studios. It is Usman’s storytelling and drive that has proved it is possible. The way animation is made is shifting using free software. Blender and open-source tools are bringing animation to anyone who has a story to tell.
